Traditionally in our diocese, First Communion is celebrated in 2nd grade as long as the child has been in religious education classes since kindergarten or first grade or is enrolled in Xavier Catholic Schools. If a child has not been in any religious education class, then they must complete 2 years of Religious Education before receiving First Eucharist.
Regular attendance at Sunday Mass with family is expected for each child preparing to receive First Eucharist.
IMPORTANT
First Communions will take place during 3 designated Sundays ONLY. Families may choose what Mass they will attend during the designated Sundays.
All high school students who wish to be confirmed must complete 9th and 10 grade religious education (or attend Catholic High School) and complete 11th grade Confirmation Class before requesting the sacrament of Confirmation.
Preparation includes attending Confirmation class, 10 hours of service, attendance at the retreat, writing a letter of request to the bishop, and an interview with Father Ryan.
Confirmation is celebrated in the spring according to Bishop’s schedule.
